Morgan (Airspeed Prime) is joined by Callum (Badgermole1) and Troy (Trojan People) to discuss some announcements of announcements and some actual news. 3 listener Questions are answered before an in-depth discussion on 302 The Headband.
As for why Combustion Man is wearing a Chef’s hat, that mystery is resolved by listening to the episode discussion :)
Fun times on this episode, some really funny moments and some great discussion on 302 The Headband.
LEGEND has it that certain hard-KORR fans will be getting a treat this summer! Just in the NICK of time!!!!
For some reason, this “tight rough” for the second piece of press art we released didn’t make it into the Korra art book, but I like it so I’m posting it here. I based it off of a storyboard panel of Joaquim’s from the premiere episode, and he did some further revisions on top of my drawing, which are included here in what you might call a “jam.” I wouldn’t call it that. Without wincing.
Sorry again for the lack of posts! Our production schedule is simply brutal as we are working on Books 2, 3, and 4 simultaneously, and I have little time for anything else once I try to fit “being a human being” in there. Such is the nature of TV production and its protracted, overlapping schedules… Despite the absence and the delays (which are all symptomatic of The Difficulty of Making Animation and little or nothing else), I would (as I have in the past) humbly ask you for your continued patience: It is a good year to be a Korra fan, and a lot of great stuff is coming down the pipeline that we are excited to announce (when we are permitted to announce it) and to share with you all. Thanks, sincerely!
The wait for new episodes of The Legend of Korra has been more difficult for fans, since that show aired its 12 episodes with nearly no breaks last year, but has been gone for quite some time. Fans have the comfort of knowing there are still three more “Books” to go in the series, but so far, we haven’t been given a debut date for Book 2. That didn’t change today, as Nick could only say Korra would be back “later this year.” However, we were shown a cool new scene from the upcoming episodes.
We’ve known since last summer that Book 2 is subtitled “Spirits,” and Nickelodeon’s Rich Magallanes noted that in Book 2, the divide between the human world and the spirit world was collapsing and Korra finds, “the dark spirits are seeping into her world.”
The sequence we saw found Korra battling one of these spirits, initially just seen as dark tentacles, surrounded by a purple energy, coming out of the ground on a hillside. Korra asks, “Spirit, why are you so angry? What have we done to offend you?” only for the tentacles to violently knock her aside, as they do to anyone else who attempts to help her, including Tenzin and an adult, male Water Tribe member I didn’t recognize at a glance.
Then, the full octopus-like creature rises out of the ground, and begins moving down the hill, utlimately crashing through a fence into a carnival being held, as Korra pursues it. On the offense, Korra shoots the creature with fireballs and begins to get the upper hand, but she is suddenly grabbed by one of its tentacles, and smashed down into the ground. And… we cut to black, for now.
And sorry, my fellow Korra fans, Nickelodeon is not releasing this scene to the public for the time being. As the scene was introduced, they noted that there is still a lot of work to be completed on the animation side for Korra: Book 2 - though the scene in question still looked terrific, even if it wasn’t in its final form. Suffice to say, it hinted at some very exciting things to come.
HOW DID WE MISS THIS
I’m excited to share with you the final cover art (Korra drawn by Joaquim Dos Santos and painted by me, with a background painting by Fred Stewart) for the upcoming Korra Book One: Air art book, published by our good friends at Dark Horse Books. This was a real labor of love (heavy on the labor) for Mike, Joaquim, and me and all those who helped as we put this book together, and we are so proud of all the great artists’ work inside and can’t wait to share it with all of you. The plan is to do one of these art books per “book” of Korra (so four total), which is daunting yet fantastic.
Direct market on sale date: July 24, 2013.
Book market on sale date: August 6, 2013.
9” x 12” hardcover, 144 pages
Bryan just posted the amazing cover of the upcoming Korra art book! It will have tons of awesome pre-production art from book 1 and captions from me, Bryan, and Joaquim describing what went into developing the story and look of the show.
